End Telehodai. IP migration for landlines

Discontinued call charge discount service

Terminate Telehodai. Landline IP Migration

On the 20th, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporation (NTT East Japan) and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corporation announced that they will end all call charge discount services for fixed phones, including "Tele-hodai", in January 2024.

In January 2024, the company will migrate fixed-line telephones from the public switched telephone network (PSTN) to the IP network, and in line with this, the billing system will be reviewed. The company will terminate all call charge discount services for individuals and corporations, including the time-limited flat-rate call charge service "Tele-hodai", which the company has provided since 1995 and was also used for PC communication and Internet connection.

The basic charges will not change even after the migration to the IP network, but the charge system will take advantage of the characteristics of the IP network that are not dependent on distance, such as uniform charges for calls between fixed phones nationwide/all time zones.

In terms of services, basic voice services such as ISDN call mode, call waiting, number display, and public telephones will continue. On the other hand, we will terminate the provision of services that are expected to decrease in the number of users in the future or that are difficult to provide over IP networks. Since existing metal cables are used as they are for each household's equipment, there is no need for in-house construction work or procedures associated with the migration.
