Enable the new backup function of Android 6.0 in case of model change

The Android 6.0 update was delivered to "arrows NX F-02H", and many people should have executed the software update immediately. There are many things that will change with Android 6.0, but what I would like to pay attention to, although it is a little modest, is the new backup / restore function.

The backup / restore function existed in Android 5.0 for the time being. It is realized by a mechanism called "Android Backup Service", and you can back up Gmail and Google calendar settings, Wi-Fi SSID and password, home screen wallpaper, etc. Settings and data of general apps downloaded from Google Play are also backed up.

Backup / restore function in the Android 5.0 era.The backup target extends to the system settings, but in order to back up the data of the essential installed application, that application had to be compatible.

However, in order for general apps to use this function, it is essential for the app program to support it, and in fact, there were not many compatible apps. It may not have been very useful in the most important situations where you want to make the most of backup, such as when you change models or reinstall the app due to a malfunction.

機種変に備えてAndroid 6.0の新しいバックアップ機能を有効に

With Android 6.0, this backup / restore mechanism has changed significantly. No special action is required in the application program, and the application settings and data are automatically backed up at least every 24 hours by the processing on the OS side. The backup destination is Google Drive of the Google account specified by the user, and I am happy that the required data area is not counted in the contracted capacity of Google Drive.

Android 6.0 backup / restore function.Just tap to turn it on and specify your Google account

To enable backup, just turn on "Data backup" in "Settings-> Device management-> Backup and reset" and specify the Google account to back up to. However, there are some conditions for operation. It is an app made for Android 6.0 (sdkVersion is 23), and the settings of the app to be backed up and the size of the data are up to 25MB (if the data size is exceeded, it will not be backed up after that).

There aren't many apps built for Android 6.0 so far. Even if the data is within 25MB, it seems that all games that additionally install a large amount of data cannot be backed up. Still, considering future model changes, such as the "arrows SV F-03H" scheduled to be released on July 6, if you turn on backup with the arrows NX F-02H now, The effort of migrating to the environment must be reduced to some extent.

By the way, restoration is done automatically when you install an application that has backup data. Already from Android 5.0, a "tap & go" function that inherits Google account settings etc. between NFC-equipped terminals is included, and of course it can also be used when migrating from arrows NX F-02H to other models.

I'm taking over my Google account from one device to the other with "Tap & Go". It is a mechanism that first holds the terminals over each other, cooperates with NFC, and then communicates with Bluetooth.Since I use multiple Google accounts, it took a lot of time to change models, but thanks to this function, it's fairly easy.

While switching to a new model is exciting, it is also a task to redo most of the settings that have been built up to that point, and the bottleneck is that it takes a lot of time to start using it satisfactorily. At the time of the next model change, I would like to make good use of the new backup / restore function and tap & go function so that the environment can be smoothly migrated.
