Chinese tech giants such as Huawei Alibaba and "Carbon Neutral", which are rapidly expanding in the world, are also rushing to enter.

The Paris Agreement, an international framework for global warming countermeasures, was adopted on December 12, 2015 by the agreement of 195 countries that participated in the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21). It was signed by 175 countries at the signing ceremony held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on March 22, and came into effect on November 4, the same year.

The Paris Agreement sends a strong message as an international framework for sustainable growth while responding to climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, many countries have updated their national contribution targets (NDCs), and carbon neutrality (greenhouse gas emissions of virtually zero) has become a global trend.

In September 2020, the Chinese government announced a "double carbon target" to peak out carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in 2018 and achieve carbon neutrality in 1960. 2009 was the first year of carbon neutrality in China, with carbon neutrality officially included in government activity reports.

The government's goals will undoubtedly bring about major changes in the economic and social system, shifting industrial development towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Technology companies that respond to carbon-neutral policies are also making progress.

Technology company initiatives

The information and communication technology (ICT) industry currently accounts for only 2.3% of the world's total CO2 emissions, but ICT is also one of the effective means to achieve carbon neutrality.

The Chinese Institute of Information and Communication Technology, a government-affiliated think tank, released the "Digital Carbon Neutral White Paper," in which it pointed out that the ICT industry is gradually strengthening its efforts to reduce CO2 emissions. He said that digital technology has great potential for emission reductions, and that digitization is an important process for China to achieve carbon neutrality.
