Blackmagic Design has announced a software update for Blackmagic RAW 1.5.
The update adds support for Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer, as well as support for Blackmagic RAW Speed Test on Mac, PC and Linux. This allows Blackmagic RAW files to be used on a wide variety of platforms and editing software. Blackmagic RAW 1.5 is available for free download from the Blackmagic Design website.
Blackmagic RAW 1.5 update includes new support for Blackmagic RAW Speed Test for Windows and Linux. Blackmagic RAW Speed Test is a CPU/GPU evaluation tool. You can test the decoding speed of full resolution Blackmagic RAW frames on your system. Multiple CPU cores and GPUs are automatically detected during testing for accurate and realistic results. Select Blackmagic RAW constant bitrate 3:1, 5:1, 8:1 or 12:1 and resolution when running this test. The results are displayed in an easy-to-understand tabular format, showing how many frames per second (fps) your computer can decode for each supported resolution.
Editors using Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer can now work with Blackmagic RAW files using the free plug-in included with Blackmagic RAW 1.5. These new plugins allow you to work directly in Blackmagic RAW, eliminating the need to transcode your files. This means you can use your camera's original Blackmagic RAW files throughout your workflow. There is no need to create proxy files or conform edits for finishing. Modern small GPU and CPU accelerated files created with Blackmagic RAW are faster and easier to work with than other video formats. A new plugin will allow you to work to the advantage of these files in RAW quality.
Moving projects from Premiere Pro or Media Composer to DaVinci Resolve for color correction and finishing work is unique in that all camera RAW metadata and image quality is preserved.
